A champion of inclusive education, a rising star on the Atlantic telecommunications scene, a dedicated public servant with a passion for community service, and an economic development powerhouse are the recipients of the 2021 Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Alumni Recognition Awards.
High school trades teacher Tara McNeill of Fredericton, telecommunications engineer Mathieu Savoie of Moncton, national security analyst Johanne McInnis of Saint John, and commercial real estate advisor Donna Green of Moncton were honoured by Ï㽶ÊÓƵ in a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, November 3. McNeill is also the recipient of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s prestigious Friend of New Brunswick award, recognizing an individual who has made significant contributions to the culture, reputation, and economy of New Brunswick.
“With their many contributions to their professions and communities, these four alumni are truly representative of the significant impact that Ï㽶ÊÓƵ graduates have on New Brunswick’s social and economic prosperity,” said Mary Butler, President and CEO of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. “Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s story is best told through the success of our alumni and their influence in their communities.”
A recent Economic Impact Report highlighted the significance of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ graduates in the New Brunswick economy. The 53,000-plus Ï㽶ÊÓƵ alumni currently in the province’s workforce boosted provincial GDP by an estimated $7.2 billion and supported more than 70,000 jobs in 2019-2020.
“The report confirmed what we at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ have always believed – that our alumni are the fuel in New Brunswick’s economic engine,” said Butler. “Tara, Mathieu, Johanne, and Donna are just four of the many Ï㽶ÊÓƵ alumni who are transforming lives and communities every day.”
Nominations for Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s Alumni Recognition Awards are open year-round and can be submitted online.
